Ainsley House tour guide, May 2005.
Officially the San Jose Area Chapter of The Ladies’ Tea Guild -- a national organization founded in 1999 -- we are a hobby club for women who have a passion for the past, particularly the years spanning 1800 through 1940.  Tea, with all of its history, rituals, and varieties, of course, plays a central part in our activities.

We meet monthly for events such as lectures, picnics, and historic house tours, just to name a few of our activities.  Four times a year there is a large event, often with a presentation or theme.  Many of our members enjoy dressing up in vintage or historic reproduction clothing, however this is not required for membership.

Ladies' Tea Guild Mission Statement:
1. To educate our members about the years 1800 – 1940.
2. To research the customs, culture, and fashions of our time-frame.
3. To hostess unique and interesting social events where our members have the opportunity, should they so desire, to dress up in their favorite vintage.
4. Through our events and social gatherings, to create a community of like-minded women who understand the importance of sharing and helping one another.
5. To create endless opportunities for fun, laughter, and knowledge.

Now stir the fire, and close the shutters fast,
Let fall the curtains, wheel the sofa round,
And, while the bubbling and loud-hissing urn
Throws up a steamy column, and the cups
That cheer but not inebriate, wait on each,
So let us welcome peaceful evening in.
-- William Cowper (1731-1800)
